- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 1/4 teaspoons flaky sea salt, divided
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup shelled salted pistachios, roughly chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray the parchment and any exposed pan with nonstick spray.
- Place the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook until completely melted and just beginning to brown. Do not let it get too dark.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the browned butter, brown sugar, and honey until smooth.
- Add the egg and egg yolk, then whisk until fully combined.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of the flaky sea salt and the flour just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Sprinkle the top with the remaining flaky sea salt and the chopped pistachios.
- Bake for 23 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are set, the top is golden, and the center is still slightly soft.
- Cool the bars in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cut into small squares and serve.
Notes
- Watch the butter closely while browning so it does not burn.
- Do not overmix the batter or the bars may turn dense.
- Do not overbake; the center should still look slightly soft when removed from the oven.
- Let the bars cool completely before slicing for cleaner squares.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
