Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and roll into balls.
- Place one beef ball onto each tortilla and press into a thin, even layer. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil and place the tortilla beef-side down. Sear for 2–3 minutes until browned and crispy.
- Flip the tortilla, add a slice of cheese on top of the beef, and cook for 1–2 more minutes until melted.
- Remove from the pan and top with diced onion, pickles, shredded lettuce, and sauce if desired.
- Serve immediately while hot and crispy. Repeat for remaining tacos.
Notes
- Use cold beef for best smash texture.
- Don’t overload with toppings to maintain crispiness.
- For gluten-free, use corn or gluten-free tortillas.
- Switch to plant-based meat and vegan cheese for a vegan version.
