Ingredients

  • 1.1 lbs (500 g) beef steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper (optional), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef into thin strips and season lightly with salt and pepper. Slice the bell peppers and onion, and mince the garlic.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat.
  3. Add the beef strips and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Sauté garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add bell peppers and onion. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until tender but still crisp.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), sugar, and black pepper. Stir well.
  7. Pour in the beef broth or water and bring to a simmer. Add the cornstarch mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Serve hot over steamed white rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Use flank steak or sirloin for the best texture.
  • To make it gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Add extra vegetables like broccoli or snap peas for variety.
  • Serve with jasmine rice or egg noodles for a complete meal.
