Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef (96/4) – or substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option.
- 1 lb. russet potatoes, chopped – can swap for sweet potatoes or cauliflower for a lower-carb version.
- ½ white onion, chopped – essential for that signature Big Mac flavor.
- 1 tbsp. olive oil – helps achieve golden-brown potatoes.
- ¼ cup water – keeps the potatoes moist while cooking.
- 1 tsp. yellow mustard – enhances the classic cheeseburger taste.
- ½ tsp. garlic powder & ½ tsp. onion powder – for extra depth of flavor.
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese – full-fat cheese melts better for that gooey texture.
Homemade Big Mac Sauce
- ¼ cup mayonnaise – opt for olive oil mayo for a healthier twist.
- ¼ cup ketchup – regular or sugar-free ketchup for fewer carbs.
- ¼ cup chopped dill pickles – adds the tangy crunch.
- 1 tbsp. pickle juice – a secret ingredient that boosts flavor authenticity.
Toppings for the Best Flavor
- 1 vine tomato, chopped
- Handful of shredded iceberg lettuce – adds crunch.
- ¼ cup dill pickle chips – extra Big Mac taste.
- Handful of chopped white onions
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Wash and chop russet potatoes into bite-sized pieces. The smaller they are, the faster they cook.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add potatoes and ¼ cup water, then season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish.
In the same pan, cook ground beef and white onion over medium heat until browned (about 5–7 minutes). Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and mustard. Stir well, then add to the baking dish.
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture. Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
While the casserole bakes, whisk together mayo, ketchup, chopped pickles, and pickle juice in a small bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Remove casserole from the oven, uncover, and drizzle Big Mac sauce evenly over the top. Sprinkle with lettuce, tomatoes, white onions, and extra pickle chips. Serve warm and enjoy!
