Description

This German Chocolate Poke Cake is rich, indulgent, and incredibly moist, made with a German chocolate cake base infused with caramel sauce, sweetened condensed milk, and topped with chocolate chips, coconut, pecans, and drizzled frostings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup chocolate frosting
  • ½ cup caramel frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to package instructions, pour into the prepared pan, and bake as directed.
  2. Once baked, allow the cake to cool slightly. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes evenly across the surface of the cake, making sure they are deep but not all the way through.
  3. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, followed by drizzling caramel sauce, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  4. Sprinkle chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans evenly over the cake.
  5. Microwave chocolate and caramel frostings for 10–15 seconds until pourable, then drizzle both over the top of the cake.
  6. Let the cake rest for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. For best texture, refrigerate for 2–4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • Refrigerate overnight for an even better texture and taste.
  • Toast the coconut and pecans to add depth and nuttiness.
  • Homemade caramel sauce gives a fresher, richer taste.
  • For a nut-free version, omit pecans and add more shredded coconut.
  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut milk instead of condensed milk and dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • For a low-sugar version, use sugar-free caramel sauce and low-sugar cake mix.
