- 2 lbs Ground beef – 80/20 blend for best flavor
- ½ cup Breadcrumbs – Plain or seasoned
- 1 Egg – Beaten
- 1 Onion – Finely diced
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 3 tbsp Butter – Salted or unsalted
- 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
- 2 cups Beef broth – Low sodium preferred
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 Onion – Sliced
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Form into 6–8 oval-shaped patties. Set aside.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, brown the patties for 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onion until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and cream until smooth.
- Add garlic powder and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Return patties to skillet, nestling them in the gravy.
- Cover tightly and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

- Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach at least 160°F.
- You can prep the patties and gravy ahead, then bake when ready.
- Low-sodium broth prevents the dish from becoming too salty.
